20-year-old Liverpool player says something absolutely brilliant happened to him last night

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has claimed that he had a ‘dream come true’ last night.

Having sparkled last week, the 20-year-old was once again in the team for the England U21s, as they took on Ukraine.

And despite losing 3-2 on the night, it was a proud evening for Elliott. Taking to Instagram after the game, the Liverpool man revealed his pride at being named team captain in Slovakia.

“Dream come true to captain the side,” said the youngster. “Not the result we wanted but couldn’t be prouder of the boys. Back to the reds and back to work.”

Elliott banked a full 90 minutes for England, with plenty of time to recover for Saturday’s Merseyside Derby.

Elliott was actually wearing the armband for a portion of Thursday’s 9-1 hammering of Serbia. But last night was the first time he’d been named captain from the start.

It feels like a natural progression for a player who is undoubtedly mature beyond his years.

Ever since his arrival at Liverpool as a 16-year-old, Elliott has displayed the kind of qualities you look for in a captain.

He’s fantastically well-spoken, popular with his teammates and passionate as they come.

Even if he isn’t playing well, Harvey will continue to give it everything for club and country. You can see why his coaches and managers love him.

As a huge Liverpool fan, you can only imagine what one day skippering the Reds would mean to Elliott. Given that some senior figures have now moved on, perhaps that reality perhaps isn’t all that far away now.

Jurgen Klopp is clearly an enormous supporter of the former Fulham prospect. If the chance arises, you can certainly see the boss rewarding Harvey with an in-game armband switch. Watch this space.
