Wolves winger Pedro Neto has plenty of fans inside Liverpool at the moment.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Neto as they weigh up whether they’ll have to replace Mohamed Salah next summer.

For now, it seems that the 23-year-old is tentatively in the ‘one to watch’ column. And reporting for the Daily Briefing today, journalist Neil Jones reiterates that Neto is certainly a player with ‘admirer’s inside Anfield.

“I’m not surprised to see Pedro Neto’s name being linked with top clubs, given the way he’s started the Premier League season,” says the journalist. “The Wolves man has always been a huge talent, one admired by just about every big side including Liverpool, but injuries have set him back significantly in recent years.

“Now he’s back fit, we are seeing what he can do, and the pace and threat he brings, plus the room for development he has at 23, mark him out as someone who can definitely take the next step by moving to a Champions League club.

“Whether that’s Liverpool – they still need to get back to the Champions League, by the way! – remains to be seen. I know that Neto has admirers at Anfield, and that his versatility and skillset would be well-suited to a Jurgen Klopp side.

“But then the same could be said, I believe, for a Mikel Arteta side or a Pep Guardiola side. I believe he is of that level, potentially.”

Liverpool continue to admire Neto

Neto’s early form in the Premier League has been excellent this season. If Liverpool needed a reminder of just how good the 23-year-old can be, they got one 10 days ago when he ripped apart Manchester City.

In some ways, perhaps that reminder was needed. Although he’s shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Wolves, we haven’t seen it for a little while, at least not consistently anyway.

But in this kind of form, it’s easy to see why staff at Liverpool would be so excited by Neto.

With a reported £50m price-tag [Metro], the Portugal international wouldn’t come especially cheaply. But that’s the kind of price range Liverpool are used to shopping in, after all.

Diogo Jota didn’t cost too far South of that when joining in 2020. At the time it looked like a lot for a player who was in the Championship not too long before, but has since looked like a smart bit of business.

If the Reds could snare Jota’s international colleague for a similar fee, it would be another handy looking piece of business. Should Neto keep delivering as he did against City though, Wolves may start to feel they can get a little more.

If that’s what ends up happening, then Liverpool may need to bow out of the race. For now though, they’re very much still in it.
