Liverpool have looked at three potential centre-back signings ahead of the January transfer window.
For a number of reasons, the Reds clearly need to start thinking about bolstering their defence over the next two or three transfer windows.
And according to journalist Neil Jones, that’s exactly what Liverpool are doing. Writing in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing today, Jones outlines the options Jurgen Klopp is looking at, and how likely it is that he’ll bring one of them in.

“Both Goncalo Inacio and Piero Hincapie have been looked at by Liverpool, as has Benfica’s Antonio Silva,” explained the journalist.
“But any move in January would depend, I think, on two factors.
“One is whether Liverpool’s current centre-backs are fit (at the moment, they are) and two is whether those players are available and affordable, mid-season. Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting CP and Benfica all have designs on challenging for league titles, remember, so obtaining key players from them in January won’t be easy.
“Next summer would be more likely, unless circumstances change.”
Liverpool looking at centre-back options
Although it doesn’t feel likely at all, some would argue that Liverpool could actually do with two centre-back signings over the next year.
One clearly needs to be the long-term partner for Ibrahima Konate. With both Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk now 32, neither can be counted as a particularly long-term option.
Joe Gomez meanwhile is still hovering around, but seems to be accepted more now as a kind of utility-man in defence rather than a clear starter.

Jarell Quansah is of course the wildcard here. If the 20-year-old continues to develop in the way he has been this season, then he could have a big future at Anfield.
Perhaps a future starter may be stretching it a little, but Quansah does look like someone who could be a squad player at least.
Nevertheless, you feel that in two to four years there will be at least two spots open. As we’ve seen with the midfield, Liverpool can’t wait too long before addressing this. If the players are available, go out and get them when you can.
In terms of individuals, all three of these names have been strongly linked over the past 12 months. Any would seemingly be worthy of approach from Liverpool. Keep an eye on all of them.
