Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has been handed a new nickname after an excellent display against Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 20-year-old once again earnt praise from Jurgen Klopp for a commanding display on his European debut for the Reds.
Quansah had every right to be happy with his performance, and took to Instagram after game to give his reaction. “3pts. Clean sheet. Job done,” wrote the centre-back, in seemingly typically understated fashion.
Less understated were those in the comments. With the likes of Stefan Bajcetic (“Top class”), and Ben Doak (“Cold”) weighing in, Quansah’s former youth team colleague Tyler Morton was the pick of the bunch.
“The Warrington Baresi,” wrote the on-loan Hull City man. It doesn’t have quite the same ring as Nat Phillips‘ fabled ‘Bolton Baresi’ tag, but it’ll do!
Quansah takes the acclaim
What a couple of months it has been for Jarell Quansah. Having played in all of Liverpool’s pre-season games over the summer, the defender must have had an inkling he’d be involved when the action got underway for real.
But even the young man himself has perhaps been surprised at just how much he’s been involved.
After 10 games of the season in all competitions, Quansah has played in five of them, starting two.
It’s probable that as the campaign goes on, we’ll see a little less of our No.78. But the early rounds of the cup competitions have given Quansah a base from which to work from.
Just how far he goes now will be down to his own hard work and performances when given the chance.
As his predecessor to the ‘Baresi’ crown learned, opportunities are likely to crop up in Liverpool’s defence. Between them, the Reds current senior centre-back group haven’t got the most stable of injury histories. Phillips capitalised on that, and maybe Quansah will too.
In the meantime though, the Warrington born defender must be in dreamland. Long may that continue.
