Union Saint-Gilloise defender Kevin Mac Allister has hailed Anfield as one of the best stadiums in the world.

All eyes were on Mac Allister last night, as he took on his brother – Liverpool midfielder Alexis – for the first time ever.

In the end, the game was a little bit of non-event. The Reds ended up 2-0 winners but it was far from a vintage night at Anfield.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that the Mac Allister family had a superb evening. Interviewed alongside Alexis by CBS Sports Golazo after the match, Kevin had some ‘special’ words to say about the Liverpool home ground.

“It was really special for me,” said the 25-year-old. “For him [Alexis] I think it’s normal to play at Anfield. For me it was really special that my family saw me in one of the best places to play football in the world. Of course I tried to enjoy it but it was really difficult.”

On the right of a back three last night, Kevin had a generally good game for Union.

Although he and his teammates had a difficult start, with Mohamed Salah and then Darwin Nunez both breaking through to miss, they soon settled into it.

With much of the play going on in-front of he and his teammates, Mac Allister and co were organised and tricky to break down.

In terms of atmosphere, this made for a slightly damp one at Anfield.

Pre-game, it felt as though it could be a ferocious evening at the famous ground, with events last weekend at Tottenham sharpening minds about putting on a display.

But instead, it looked like the game in London and the subsequent fall-out had simply exhausted everyone, players and fans alike.

Regardless, the travelling Union SG supporters didn’t stop signing all game long. Their energy alone seemed to make it a loud one in the ground, and they played their part in making it a night for Mac Allister – and his teammates – to remember forever.
