Liverpool are expected to make a move to sign summer target Andre Trindade in the January transfer window.

The Reds seemingly put feelers out for the addition of Andre from Fluminense over the summer months. But with the Brazilian side adamant that the 22-year-old was staying until the end of their season, it was a non-starter.

From Fluminense’s point of view, that decision now looks like a good one. Last night Andre played the full 90 minutes as they qualified for their first Copa Libertadores final since 2008. They now have a real shot at winning the title for the first time ever.

According to The Mirror though, whether they do or not will have little bearing on Andre’s future – he’s set to leave either way.

And when the Brazil international does become available on the market, it’s said to be ‘widely expected’ that Liverpool will be making their move.

Liverpool plotting Andre return

Having brought in four new midfielders over the summer, Liverpool are currently pretty well stocked in that department.

Nevertheless, there is still a feeling that one more may just be needed. With Thiago Alcantara set to be a free agent at the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp may believe that another will complete the rebuild.

If that does happen, then it seems quite clear that that man will be Andre.

The Reds were linked with the Fluminense player relentlessly for the final weeks of the transfer window. Indeed, they would appear to have put in plenty of legwork already.

It was always clear that Flu wouldn’t let him go in July or August, so January must have been the realistic target.

Obviously, it was frustrating that Liverpool couldn’t get Andre through the door before the start of the season. But adding a quality player, one who has been described as ‘dynamic’ by football analysis site Breaking The Lines, would be a real boost mid-campaign.

Let’s hope this ends up being correct, and the Reds can nail down a relatively long-term target.
