Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made two or three top saves against Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s rather been lost in amongst the fall-out of Saturday’s game, but Alisson was superb yet against in North London.
Two saves from James Maddison and Son Heung-Min were of particular note, and it’s pleasing to see that at least one pundit – NBC Sport’s Robbie Earle – give the 31-year-old his flowers.
“Alisson, by the way came up with two or three magnificent, magnificent saves that many keepers in the league don’t get near,” said the former Jamaica international.
“His form recently, Newcastle away brilliant save Almiron, last weekend brilliant save again. He’s back sharp, on top of his game.”
Alisson continues brilliant form
With Liverpool back looking like their old selves again, some had perhaps expected Alisson to be less busy this season.
But seven Premier League games in, and it’s clear that the Reds are going to need their No.1 just as much as ever. Thankfully, Alisson is more than up to the task.
The two saves Earle refers to on Saturday really were top-draw. First, he stretched everything possible to tip Maddison’s curler round the post.
Next, he made a save not dissimilar to the jaw-dropping stop against Almiron at St James’ Park.
When Son took the ball down on his chest inside the Liverpool area, you felt sure the net would be rippling a second later. But although he caught the volley sweetly, Alisson was equal to it. Two hands tipping the shot over the bar.
At this point, nobody should be surprised to see this excellence from Alisson. But to continue being this good for this long simply isn’t normal.
If any Liverpool fans didn’t know it already, then they should give their head a big long shake. The Brazilian has been amazing since his £67m move in 2018. Now though, there can be no doubt at all: the Reds have the best ‘keeper in the world at their disposal. Long may it continue.
