Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Saudi Arabian interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Worry spread amongst Reds fans right at the end of the summer transfer window, with rumours that a Saudi offer was being prepared for Alisson.
Thankfully though, nothing came of it. And with the Brazilian excelling once again for Liverpool this season, transfer expert Romano shared the latest on Alisson via his Daily Briefing.
“Honestly, however, I’m not aware of anything concrete from Saudi for Alisson last summer, despite the rumours,” he says.
“There were never concrete proposals or official bids, interest always there for a fantastic GK like Alisson but not concrete deal or negotiations. The Brazilian is now in superb form for Liverpool, showing again why he’s so important for the Reds.”
Alisson going nowhere
Obviously, this is great news for Liverpool. There are a number of hugely important players in the Reds squad right now, but Alisson is arguably the one Jurgen Klopp really couldn’t replace.
The same could be said of Mohamed Salah of course, and the Egyptian seems much more likely to leave than the goalkeeper.
But Liverpool do at least have goals and assists spread throughout the team, albeit not in the volume that Salah provides.
In terms of Alisson though, they simply wouldn’t find a player who can do and offer what he does. In a very real sense, the 31-year-old is irreplaceable.
As a result, if Saudi interest does materialise next year, Liverpool must fight it with everything they have.
From Alisson’s point of view, he seems happy and settled at Anfield. He has never pushed to leave and has a contract until 2027.
As things stand, Reds fans will expect that their No.1 sees out that contact, and perhaps even extends it. His form over the past 18 months has cemented him as the world’s premier goalkeeper. There’s surely no way he leaves for a pay check in the Middle East.
