Jurgen Klopp has raved about what he’s been seeing from Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah.

Quansah has been a breakout star of the Reds season so far, playing his first 90 minutes as a Liverpool player against Leicester City last night.

Once again, the 20-year-old looked calm, assured and even set up Diogo Jota with a wonderful late assist. And speaking in his post-match press conference, it’s clear that Jurgen was hugely impressed.

Jarell Quansah, not only playing outstandingly well, setting a goal up,” said the Liverpool manager.

“So exciting, you cannot watch him without smiling, to be honest. It’s really, really nice to see.”

Quansah passes another test

Having been a surprise inclusion in Liverpool’s first team this season, Quansah has been near flawless in his displays so far.

It’s perhaps unwise to read too much from that, but at 20 he isn’t a baby anymore. He’s also had a productive spell in men’s football in the lower leagues already. In short, Quansah looks ready.

Against an in-form Leicester side, last night was a real test for him. But with Ibrahima Konate guiding him through, the youngster once again passed with flying colours.

As Liverpool get set to consider their options in defence next summer, Quansah’s emergence has come at the absolute perfect time.

From his point of view, the Reds decision not to sign an extra centre-back has obviously given him a path into the first team. But from Liverpool’s point of view, they’ve now got a genuine extra back-up option, and potentially one who can be a starter in the future.

For now though, all Quansah needs to do is take things one game at a time. Klopp is obviously a big fan of his and will give him the chances he needs. Given the injury history of most of the manager’s back-line candidates, the young man may get more than he thinks.

In the meantime, Jurgen isn’t the only one watching Quansah with a smile right now. Keep it going, Jarell!
