Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to training.

Alexander-Arnold has missed the past three games with a hamstring injury. Three looks set to become four tomorrow, as the 24-year-old sits out of the Carabao Cup tie with Leicester City.

But according to Lijnders, Trent is back in training, and immediately looking sharp.

“Trent trained yesterday with us but it was just in the rondo and the ball possession with the counter-pressing, but he was outstanding,” raved the Dutch coach.

“You see him instantly, of course. He is with the team training, I am not sure if he will be ready [for Leicester], we will see today.”

Trent steps up injury return

Although Liverpool have made light of his absence so far, every Reds supporter will be relieved to hear that Trent is almost back.

Joe Gomez has stepped in brilliantly, but there’s nobody quite like Liverpool’s No.66.

Should he be out for an extended period, then the Reds simply cannot replace him. No team in world football could. The Scouser is simply that good.

Thankfully, it appears as though he’ll be ready for Liverpool’s biggest match of the season so far – away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Should there be any signs of rustiness, or a further setback, then Alexander-Arnold shouldn’t be risked for that game. Gomez has been good enough not to rush Trent back unnecessarily.

But if he continues to looks as good as Lijnders is claiming here, then the academy graduate has to be involved.

Either way, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be long before we see Trent back on the pitch.
