Liverpool have now asked to be kept informed of the availability of Khephren Thuram ahead of the January transfer market but Juventus lead the race for the OGC Nice star.

That is according to 90min, which claims that Liverpool remain interested in signing Thuram after considering his transfer this summer. So, Anfield chiefs have requested to be kept up to date on any developments regarding his situation at Nice before the markets restart in 2024.

Thuram has earned many admirers on Merseyside with his performances in Ligue 1. But the 22-year-old’s form also has also alerted Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds’ rival suitors have all tracked him this term.

Liverpool remain interested in Thuram’s transfer from Nice

Clubs have flocked to send scouts to Nice to watch Thuram during the opening weeks of the season. Liverpool have not had their scouts attend fixtures at the Allianz Riviera yet. But the Anfield side remain open to Thuram’s transfer despite Jurgen Klopp’s signings this summer.

Deals for Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch gifted Klopp new options in the engine room. But Liverpool moved for Endo and Gravenberch after selling Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. So, Klopp is still open to building his options further.

Liverpool would have to overcome Juventus to secure a transfer with Nice for Thuram, who French football expert Jonathan Johnson thinks is ‘phenomenal’. The Bianconeri are showing the strongest interest in a deal and can take advantage of his father’s ties to the Serie A side.

Lilian Thuram spent five seasons in Turin and would love to see his son move to the club in a future market. If Juventus make that dream a reality, Liverpool may only have themselves to blame. Johnson also reported in August that the Reds had reservations over signing Thuram.

Some at Liverpool questioned if Thuram was ready for the demands of the Premier League. So, they did not push ahead with his transfer from Nice over targeting Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia before they joined Chelsea. It would have also cost a lot to get Thuram’s move.

The Northern Echo reported at the end of June that Newcastle United were interested in a move to rival Liverpool for Thuram’s transfer from Nice. But Les Aiglons priced the 22-year-old at no less than £60m. He is under contract with the Ligue 1 team through to June 2025.
