Liverpool managed to come from behind to beat Wolves today and pick up and crucial win in the Premier League.

Goals from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and then Harvey Elliott were enough for the Reds to come from behind to see off Wolves at Molineux.

However, it wasn’t all completely rosy for the Reds and in the first half, TNT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas was far from impressed with defender, Joe Gomez.

Jenas unimpressed with Joe Gomez as Liverpool beat Wolves

Gomes was brought into the XI to replace the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold. And while things settled a bit in the second half, Gomez had a bit of a stinker in the opening 45.

With Pedro Neto causing him issues, former PL midfielder Jenas felt that Gomez just didn’t have an idea what to do with the Portuguese winger.

“You watch here with Neto. Joe Gomez doesn’t know what to do with him. All he did was point in behind and Joe Gomez dropped about ten yards. Then he gets it short and just runs by him, it was brilliant wide play,” Jenas said.

In the end, it worked out ok for Gomez and Liverpool. But overall, the absence of Alexander-Arnold was a big one that was so obvious to see.

RTK’s View: A new full-back needed

This isn’t to necessarily call out Joe Gomez for being a bad player or anything, but it is a tad worrying when Trent is missing from that right side.

Gomez is obviously better defensively but at times today even he looked way off it. And against good wingers like Neto, that can often be hard to come back from.

Liverpool signed well in the summer but a new right-back might well be needed soon. Gomez fills in when he can and does his best, but some proper competition and back up for Trent might be what’s needed.
