Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to sign a new contract in order to fend off interest from Liverpool.
The Brazilian has once again been linked with a move to Anfield in recent days. Reports from Spain during last week suggested that the Reds had failed in an enormous £100m bid for Bruno at the end of the transfer window.
That offer was reportedly met with an emphatic ‘no’ from Newcastle, and according to The Telegraph they’re now on the verge of tying him down to a new deal.

Although stopping short of confirming Liverpool’s last-ditch proposal, they do report some interest from the Reds, too.
It’s claimed that Liverpool have ‘enquired’ about signing Bruno during the last two transfer windows. Chelsea are also said to have done the same.
With Real Madrid reportedly sniffing about too, the Magpies have been keen to protect their midfielder’s value. As a result, they’re now claimed to be ‘close’ to getting Bruno’s extension over the line.
There is still a sticking point, though. It’s claimed that the 25-year-old’s advisors have been adamant that a release clause be inserted in any new deal. There’s no confirmation of that has been finalised, but it is reported that any such clause would be ‘well in excess’ of £100m.
Bruno set to sign contract
Although it’s often been reported as being ‘impossible’ for Liverpool to sign Bruno from Newcastle, the links won’t stop coming.
It really does seem as though the Reds have been trying what they can to potentially do a deal.
With four midfielders signed this summer, there isn’t too much space in the squad for another right now. But with Thiago Alcantara surely on his way next year, maybe Jurgen Klopp still wants to add another.

If he does, then Bruno would be a quality addition. Capable of playing in a deep or a more advanced role, the Brazil international can do a bit of everything.
As a result, you can understand if Newcastle do slap such a high release clause on him.
Given the teams interested, and their newfound level in the game, they’ll want to either ward off suitors or extract as much value as possible from Bruno.
With Eddie Howe describing him as an ‘outstanding’ player [Sky Sports], Guimaraes is central to their project. If Liverpool want to disrupt that, they’re going to have to pay big.
