Fiorentina have made an offer to buy reported Liverpool target Arthur Theate from Rennes.
Liverpool have been linked with Theate as they search for a suitable addition at centre-half. Last week there were reports that the Reds had already been in touch with the 23-year-old over a move this summer.
But according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, they now have stiff competition. Writing on Twitter late last night, Tavolieri claimed that Italian side Fiorentina are determined to land Theate.

“Fiorentina have sent an offer to Stade Rennais for Arthur Theate,” sayd the journalist.
“La Viola will try it at the last minute despite the intransigence of SRFC who should not let the Belgian leave Brittany if a replacement is not found.”

Fiorentina make Theate offer
As of yet, there’s no word on the value of Fiorentina’s offer for Theate. But whatever it is, Liverpool should keep an eye out.
Tavolieri reports that Rennes will not sell the Belgium international without finding a replacement first. But from claims earlier this week, it seems as though that’s something they are actively trying to do.
Liverpool’s very own Joel Matip has even been put forward by L’Equipe as a possible alternative.

Obviously, that isn’t going to happen. But if Rennes do manage to bring in a new centre-back, then the Reds should pounce.
It’s often been said that if the right opportunity comes up in the final days of the window then Liverpool would look at buying a defender.
Should Rennes be open to Fiorentina’s offer, and it isn’t too steep, then that may be the opportunity.
As a young yet experienced, left-footed centre-back, Theate could be exactly what Liverpool have been looking for. Don’t lose sight of this one between now and tomorrow.
