Alan Shearer was left furious on social media after Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t sent off for Liverpool against Newcastle United.

Taking to Twitter, the Magpies legend was fuming after the England international wasn’t shown a second yellow card for an early foul, with Alexander-Arnold being shown a booking just minutes later.

The foul was one of the biggest talking points of the opening half, with Alexander-Arnold experiencing karma as the defender was at fault for Newcastle taking the lead.

With Virgil van Dijk seeing red, it was a half to forget for Liverpool, with Alexandre-Arnold’s foul and error for the Newcastle goal something that would put a smile on Shearer’s face.

To say the opening half at St. James Park has been dramatic has been an understatement, and Alexander-Arnold’s performance was a notable low point.

The England international had endured a resurgence of sorts at the end of last season, yet Alexander-Arnold’s performance today will do nothing to help his confidence going forward.

With Liverpool heading towards defeat against Newcastle, a response will be due next weekend, with Alexander-Arnold no doubt eager to show his best to Anfield supporters.
