Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the best shooters of a ball of the past 50 years.

Szoboszlai has been coming in for a lot of praise since his Man of the Match performance against Bournemouth at the weekend.

One of those watching on, impressed, is likely to have been his Hungary national team coach, Marco Rossi. The Italian manager is well used to the 22-year-old’s star quality by now though, and told liverpool.com exactly what to expect from Szoboszlai.

“I think in England he will need to start shooting more, because I don’t think that anybody can complain if Dominik shoots with his right or left foot,” Rossi says. “When he will decide to shoot, nobody can complain.

“He has many, many strengths. Of course, he had and still has some weaknesses, but he is working hard to reduce and improve. His best skill, for sure, is his shot.

“I’ve been in football for more than half a century, and I have to say that I don’t remember more than five players in the last 50 years that have a shot like him or who are better than him.”

We’re in for a lot of fun with Szobo aren’t we?!

Rossi sings Szoboszlai praises

Having seen some of Szoboszlai’s goals during his time at RB Leipzig, it’s easy to see that he knows how to strike a ball.

We haven’t quite witnessed it at Liverpool just yet, although he did almost score an audacious halfway line strike during pre-season.

The Hungary captain has also shown off his prowess at set-pieces. It will be interesting to see who stands over the ball the next time the Reds get a free-kick within shooting range.

For Liverpool fans, it will be incredibly refreshing to see a midfielder hit shots well from distance. We’ve never really replaced Philippe Coutinho in that sense.

Jordan Henderson hit a couple of screamers during his time at the club, but they weren’t a regular occurrence.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain threatened to pick up the mantle a couple of times too, but his strikes were also too few and far between.

Szoboszlai on the other hand appears to be something of a specialist. Not to put too much pressure on him, but we’re hoping to see at least a few of these trademark net-busters before the season is out.
