Glenn Hoddle has said that Alisson Becker was Liverpool’s best player against AFC Bournemouth despite the Brazilian being at fault for the opening goal.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former England manager claimed that the 30-year-old keeper was the Man of the Match for the Reds as Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners.

Despite the result, Alisson was heavily criticised for his first-half performance, where the Brazilian was largely at fault for Bournemouth taking an early lead.

The Liverpool no. 1 then made a similar error with a poor pass from the back that could have resulted in a second Bournemouth goal, though Alisson did eventually grow into the game.

Few would have named Alisson as Liverpool’s best player, yet Hoddle did, with the pundit saying: “When you look at it, who was Man of the Match for Liverpool? Alisson made some very good saves.

“After the first minutes, when they messed up at the back. He was probably their best player. He made some very, very important saves.”

With us handing Alisson a 4/10 for his performance against Bournemouth, it was a day to forget for the former AS Roma star in Liverpool colours.

What is more, Alisson himself likely knows that his first-half performance was well below what he is capable of, with the Brazilian one of Liverpool’s most consistent players.

Lessons will be learned from the mistakes Alisson made, and many fans will expect the Brazilian to be back to his best next week against Newcastle United.
