New signing runs the show, but £67m man has a rare stinker: Liverpool player ratings vs Bournemouth

Alisson Becker: 4 – Utterly farcical from the early stages of the game from Liverpool’s usually brilliant goalkeeper. Got caught in a mix up with Ibrahima Konate inside a minute, then picked up a booking after a heavy touch outside his box. With a couple of dangerously short passes thrown in there too, it was an afternoon to forget for the £67m man.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7 – A tricky game to score Trent. Deservedly took criticism for an awful touch in the lead-up to the Bournemouth goal, but was pretty excellent after that. Building a great understanding with Dominik Szoboszlai.

Ibrahima Konate: 5 – Got into an early mix-up with Alisson and couldn’t seem to handle the Cherries attack early on. Did better as the game went on but almost put Liverpool in trouble with a sloppy pass late on.

Virgil van Dijk: 6 – Fizzed a terrible ball into Alexander-Arnold which led to the opening goal. Could have scored soon after, but was denied by the bar. Looks commanding generally, but not quite

Andy Robertson: 7 – Comfortably Liverpool’s best defender and a threat going forward, too. Got the Reds out of trouble a couple of times with good last-ditch defending.

Midfield

Alexis Mac Allister: 5 – Did his job well enough before being sent off for a high tackle on Ryan Christie. A little unlucky but it wasn’t a great tackle. Leaves us in the lurch for the coming weeks.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 8 Man of the Match – At the heart of everything good Liverpool did in the first half. Does well to win the penalty even if it was a little theatrical. Created the third with a deflected strike that Neto couldn’t hold. Ended the game absolutely bossing it. Some player.

Cody Gakpo: 6 – Started poorly having failed to get to grips with his midfield remit at Chelsea. Better second half with a couple of driving runs, but final ball failed him. Taken off for Wataru Endo after the hour.

Attack

Luis Diaz: 8 – Scored with an absolutely delightful goal that was typical of the Colombian. Bright throughout and looks back to his old self this season.

Diogo Jota: 6 – Guilty of losing possession far too easily on a number of occasions early on. Like most in red, grew into the game and Does well to create the Diaz equaliser, before showing off his poaching qualities with a trademark finish.

Mohamed Salah: 6 – Not as involved as he would like to be. Took a poor penalty straight at Neto, but did well to follow in. Missed a brilliant chance one-on-one with the Bournemouth ‘keeper second-half. Needs to be taken off penalties now.

Subs

Wataru Endo: 6 – Struggled to get into the pace of the game and was bypassed too easily a couple of times. Understandable having only arrived yesterday. Did better the longer he was on the pitch.

Joe Gomez: 6 – Slotted in fine for Trent, who worryingly looks to have taken a knock. First minutes of the season under the belt.

Harvey Elliott: 5 – Came on and was lively but almost let Bournemouth in late on.
