RB Leipzig sent a message to Liverpool after spotting a spelling mistake on Dominik Szoboszlai’s shirt yesterday.

Szoboszlai made his first start alongside new signing Alexis Mac Allister yesterday, as the Reds lost 4-3 against Bayern Munich. It was a decent performance from the Hungarian, as he got 76 minutes in the tank.

But one thing was slightly awry. Still getting used to Szoboszlai’s tricky surname, the Liverpool kit staff printed ‘Szosbozlai’ on the back of his shirt yesterday. Right letters, wrong order. Spotting the error, RB Leipzig’s English Language X account had some words of comfort for Liverpool.

“You’ll get the hang of spelling Szoboszlai eventually, trust us,” wrote the 22-year-old’s former club.

Let’s hope so!

Liverpool make Szobo error

Just when we were getting used to how to say, type and pronounce Szoboszlai, this goes and happens!

In fairness to the kitman, he probably isn’t the first to make this mistake. As Leipzig allude to, they’ve probably been guilty of it themselves.

Ultimately though, it really doesn’t matter. Szoboszlai himself was happy enough to teach Reds fans how to say his surname upon first signing for the club. He clearly takes it all in good humour.

As long as his performances on the pitch are up to scratch, he could be called the most obscure name on the planet. Liverpool supporters would only love him all the more for it.

Dominik Szoboszlai

In that respect, it’s still very, very early days. But Szoboszlai’s first steps in a Liverpool shirt have been encouraging, if not completely electric.

A knock picked up after his debut has possibly just hampered him slightly. But he looked combative and full of energy against Bayern yesterday. More will be expected as the season speeds into view.

Until Szoboszlai gets used to us and we get used to him though, maybe we’ll just call him Dom for now!
