Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who are trying to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia this summer.
Along with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, the Reds are keen on bringing Lavia to Anfield to add more depth to what is now a depleted looking midfield.
Of course, competition for Lavia is massive and for good reason.
Seen as one of the top youngsters in the whole of England, Lavia should be a guarantee in terms of a player who will go on to have a big career in the Premier League.

And while the competition is there for the Belgian, Chelsea might well have just paved the way for Liverpool to get ahead of the rest in the race for Lavia.

Confirmed by Fabrizio Romano this afternoon, the Blues have sealed a deal for young midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.
And while that might not mean much to Liverpool fans, it could provide a big opportunity.
Ugochukwu could see Chelsea back off Lavia move
Chelsea are making a habit of signing young players under Todd Boehly. It seems to be part of their long-term strategy to plan for the future and hope these players become superstars.
But right now, Chelsea’s decision to sign Ugochukwu could indicate they’ve going to leave the ‘incredible‘ Romeo Lavia alone now.
Ugochukwu very much plays in the same position as Lavia and with that in mind, it could mean the Blues know the Southampton man has his eyes on a move to Anfield.
For Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, this is a massive potential boost for the club. It means Chelsea might be out of the running and in reality, is one less club to worry about in the race for the Belgian.
Certainly, it seems like if there was ever a chance for Liverpool to get Lavia, then it’s now.
