Bayern want to sign 24-year-old former Liverpool player to replace legend, Klopp never played him

Bayern Munich are considering former Liverpool goalkeeper Kamil Grabara as a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.

Grabara spent five years at Liverpool, leaving for FC Copenhagen in 2021. There, the Polish ‘keeper has been a big hit. Having won two league titles and a Danish Cup, Grabara has marked himself out as a young goalkeeper to keep an eye on.

And according to Polish outlet Meczyki, Bayern are now doing exactly that. They claim that the German champions have Grabara in their list of potential successors to the legendary Neuer.

The former Liverpool man isn’t the only name on that list. Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili and Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou are also said to be under consideration.

However, Grabara would reportedly be attractive as a less expensive option. It’s claimed that Bayern would have to pay around £13m to get him out of Denmark.

Should that come to pass, the 24-year-old would supposedly initially serve as back-up to Neuer, before taking over from him in the future. Either way, it’s claimed that Grabara will ‘probably’ leave Copenhagen this summer, with a number of teams from Europe’s top five leagues reportedly checking on him.

Grabara always had the look of being a potentially very decent goalkeeper. Given his good loan spells at Huddersfield Town and Danish side AGF, it was a surprise when Liverpool let him leave.

The same age as Caoimhin Kelleher, a choice was obviously made between the two ‘keepers. Not that we’re complaining, of course.

But should Grabara go on to join Bayern, perhaps the Reds will have to consider that they made a small error.

They banked just £3m for his sale back in 2021. For a player who’d never featured for the first team, that’s not bad really. But considering the heights he could be about to scale so soon after leaving, it looks like peanuts.

With his Liverpool history in mind, perhaps Grabara could be considered as an option should Kelleher push to leave this summer. The Irishman has been recently linked with Wolves.

If Grabara is comfortable heading to Bayern to initially play back-up, then maybe he’d be happy to do the same at his former club.

Either way, this is certainly one to keep an eye on. As per BBC Sport, Liverpool have a 20% sell-on clause, so they do have a vested interest.
