Jordan Henderson leaves Liverpool pre-season camp ahead of transfer

Jordan Henderson has now reportedly left Liverpool’s pre-season training camp, with the midfielder set to complete a £12m transfer to Al-Ettifaq.

According to the Daily Mail, the England international has departed Germany ahead of a controversial move to Steven Gerrard’s Saudi Arabia side, with Henderson expected to be joined by midfield partner Fabinho, who is set to join Al-Ettihad in a £40m deal.

Henderson completely missed Liverpool’s pre-season opener yesterday as the 33-year-old was not named in Jurgen Klopp’s squad against Karlsruher SC, with news breaking during the 4-2 win for the Reds that an agreement had been struck between all parties to complete a transfer.

As per the report, Henderson’s exit from Anfield will allow Liverpool to once again invest in the midfield, with the Reds believed to be eyeing a move for Crystal Palace talent Cheick Doucoure as a replacement for the soon-to-be former captain.

Indeed, Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia has come out of nowhere and has caught many supporters off-guard. Yet in a footballing sense, the transfer could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool as they plan to rebuild the squad even more this summer.

Henderson’s departure has given Liverpool a unique opportunity to find a replacement for a player few would have expected to leave this summer, let alone depart for an actual transfer fee. And for the Reds, they can now set themselves up for the next few years with this one sole transfer.

As we know, Liverpool have overhauled much of the midfield already this summer with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. And Henderson’s departure means a third arrival could now be possible that will set the Reds up nicely for the new year.
