Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Al-Ettifaq to sell Jordan Henderson, with the Reds captain now expected to join Steven Gerrard’s side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have struck an agreement over the England international that will now see Henderson make the move to Saudi Arabia, with the midfielder today being left out of Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season opener.
Lauded by Jurgen Klopp as an ‘outstanding player’, Henderson’s departure will be viewed as one of the most surprising of the entire transfer window, with many Liverpool fans and pundits questioning the midfielder’s reasoning for heading to Saudi Arabia.
With Fabinho also set to head to the Middle East with Al-Ittihad, Henderson and the Brazilian will leave a sizeable void in Liverpool’s midfield, and the Reds will now have to use all the resources they have to find suitable replacements for the duo.
Henderson’s Liverpool legacy could be ruined by Al-Ettifaq move

Saudi Arabian money has flooded the market this summer, and for a player like Henderson, the midfielder risks ruining his legacy at Liverpool for signing with a club like Al-Ettifaq, even if the 33-year-old is reuniting with former teammate and Anfield legend Gerrard.
As we know, Henderson has been a massive ally off the pitch for less-represented groups in the Liverpool and football community. And the England star throwing away all the goodwill that has been built up over the years for a payday in the Middle East could tarnish the former Sunderland midfielder’s reputation on Merseyside.
