Jordan Henderson will reportedly miss Liverpool’s first pre-season friendly later today amid ongoing transfer talks with Saudi Arabia side Al-Ettifaq.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 33-year-old will not feature for the Reds tonight when they take on German side Karlsruher SC, with Henderson’s decision seemingly linked to talks with Al-Ettifaq as Steven Gerrard continues to work on bringing the midfielder to the Middle East.

Updates on Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia had died down in recent days. However, this latest news is a big indicator that the midfielder could be one step closer to making the move to Saudi Arabia, a decision many Liverpool fans pundits strongly condemn.

As for Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool boss being without his captain tonight will come as a huge blow for his pre-season preparations, with Henderson likely to start against Karlsruher had the England international not been in talks to leave the club.

Henderson to Saudi Arabia is a move that the large majority of Liverpool and football fans in general are extremely opposed too. And with updates on the deal dying down in recent days, hope had started to emerge that the midfielder wasn’t going to take the move to the Middle East.

However, the news today is a big slap in the face to Liverpool fans and all those connected with the club, with the captain now skipping out on the first game of pre-season to seemingly push through a transfer that could potentially ruin any legacy the midfielder had at Anfield.
