Jurgen Klopp has already been left amazed by new Liverpool signing Alexis Mac Allister’s displays during training.
Mac Allister is currently settling in with his new teammates during a pre-season trip to Germany. And judging by a clip posted on the official Liverpool Twitter page last night, the 24-year-old is also making an impression on his new manager.
First of all, Mac Allister blams in a left-footed strike from the edge of the box. “Wow, Macca!” shouts Klopp on the touchline.

With the Argentine and his bibbed teammates then forced to defend a quick counterattack, they’re immediately put on the back foot. But Mac Allister is up to the task.
Racing back into a left-sided defensive position, the World Cup winner cuts out a dangerous pass from what looks like fellow new boy Dominik Szoboszlai.
“I love it Macca, outstanding!” bellows Jurgen, two fists pumped high into the air. Counter-pressing, that’s the way to the bosses heart, Alexis. Good job!
Klopp excited over Mac Allister
For all Mac Allister’s quality on the ball, this was a snapshot into exactly why Liverpool wanted him so much this summer. The former Brighton man is just excellent out of possession.
As intelligent as they come, Mac Allister has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
It’s a trait we’ve so often seen in Liverpool’s midfielders down the years, and part of what made them so good collectively. Good on the ball and capable of providing support to the more attacking players around them, they were also tireless off the ball.

Last season, with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson’s legs starting to age and Gini Wijnaldum a distant memory, there was little evidence of that.
With Mac Allister in the side, that should hopefully now be reversed.
Added to that is the fact that he’s genuinely quality on the ball, too. When you mix those two things together, Macca could well be the absolute perfect Jurgen Klopp midfielder.
It’s still early days, of course. Mac Allister is still yet to play a single minute in a Liverpool shirt. But the boss obviously likes what he sees so far, and so do we. Exciting times.
