Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis could be one of the players under consideration by Liverpool.
The Reds are set for a scramble in the transfer market as they prepare to lose Fabinho to Al Ittihad. Initially planning for the season with the Brazilian on board, Jurgen Klopp is now needing to find a direct replacement.
A handful of names have so far been put forward, including Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips. But according to journalist Neil Jones via his YouTube channel, Luis is a player to keep an eye on here.

“A name I would urge you to look out for is Florentino Luis who plays for Benfica,” says Jones. “I think he’s one who could come into consideration.
“He’s a very Fabinho type player in terms of defensive midfielder, gets about the pitch, gets his foot in, strong in the tackle, really good defensively. If Liverpool are looking for like for like replacement for Fabinho they could do a lot worse than look at Florentino Luis, 23-year-old at Benfica.
“So just keep an eye on that name. I haven’t heard that there’s anything moving yet in that regards but it’s certainly one that I’d keep in mind.”
Liverpool considering Florentino approach
This isn’t the first time Liverpool have been linked with Luis. Back in March it was claimed that the Reds had travelled to Portugal to watch the 23-year-old in action.
They’d likely have been impressed by what they saw. Florentino had an excellent season, regaining his place in the team and helping Benfica to the league title.
That’s why reports from June that he could be sold for as little as £25m were a surprise.

The Eagles don’t often sell their stars on the cheap, as Liverpool found out when trying to tie up the Darwin Nunez deal 12 months ago. If they’re willing to let Luis go for that amount, then the Reds should be in the mix.
No, he isn’t exactly the experienced, senior player Liverpool may need to replace Fabinho. But nor is he a young option like Romeo Lavia.
Turning 24 in August, Luis has already played senior football in three different countries. He hardly set the world alight at either Monaco or Getafe though, it must be said.
Nevertheless, we like him as someone to come in and take over from Fabinho. It may take him a little while to hit the heights the Brazil international did at Anfield. But then again, it took Fabinho himself a little while to get going, too. As Jones says, one to keep in mind.
