Liverpool sent scouts to watch Benfica midfielder Florentino last weekend, as he helped his team to a 2-0 win.

That’s according to 90min, who claim that Florentino is ‘of interest’ to the Reds. Tottenham Hotspur were also reportedly in attendance, and are said to be keen on the 19-year-old as well.

Both clubs weren’t just there to watch Luis, though. Liverpool and Spurs are also said to have been watching midfielder centre-back Antonio Silva.

Forward Goncalo Ramos is another name-checked as a player wanted by ‘plenty of big-hitters’ across Europe. However, on this occasion, Liverpool are claimed to have been watching Silva and Florentino specifically.

Both players played 90 minutes as Benfica comfortably beat Famalicao on Friday night.

Liverpool told to sign Benfica duo

Luis has the look of being a big talent. In an off-season where the Reds need to add steel to there midfield, the 23-year-old would be a decent candidate. A former coach of the player has recently even claimed that he’d slot straight into Liverpool’s best XI.

“He can play anywhere, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, anywhere. He would have no problem adapting,” Joao Tralhao recently told Goal.

Although we’re not quite sure of that, the Reds scouts are reportedly out there deciding for themselves.

As for Silva, Liverpool’s interest is seemingly not a new phenomenon. The Reds are said to have been keeping close tabs on him for a little while now. With a new centre-back potentially on the docket for Jurgen Klopp this summer, Silva has been outlined as a possible target.

As ever with Benfica, they won’t let one of their star men go on the cheap, though. Reports from last year suggested that Silva could cost any suitor as much as £90m. That has since been revised down to more like £45m [Calciomercato]. The truth could lie somewhere in the middle.

That’s a lot of money for a player in his first season in the first team. But there are signs that Silva could be worth it. Jamie Carragher certainly knew his way around defending. The former Liverpool man has described Silva as being ‘a potential superstar’ earlier this season. A glowing recommendation. Let’s see what the Reds spotters come back with.
