Mo Salah has been teaching ‘special’ Liverpool youngster to play just like him

Mohamed Salah has been passing on tips to 17-year-old Liverpool youngster Ben Doak.

Doak is one of the most exciting players to come through the youth sides in recent years. Having been signed for the U18s from Celtic last summer, the teenager has already shot into Jurgen Klopp’s thinking for the Liverpool first team.

And now according to the Liverpool Echo, there is even greater hope for his future. With staff claimed to believe that they have a ‘special’ prospect on their hands, big things are expected of Doak.

The player himself is said to be ‘desperate’ to prove that he belongs among the senior players and has reportedly been ‘soaking up’ everything he can from Klopp’s stars.

Two of those stars most keen to help Doak are claimed to be Salah and Andy Robertson. As a countryman of his young teammate, Robertson in particular is said to be ‘keeping an eye out’ for Doak.

Salah meanwhile has reportedly taken the time to ‘pass on wisdom’ to the youngster. With Mo and Doak both playing in the same position, that support will have been invaluable for the Scotland U21international.

And although Doak is said to be ‘respectful’ of Salah, Robertson and all of Klopp’s squad, he’s also reportedly ‘not overawed’ either.

For the time being, it looks very unlikely indeed that Liverpool will add another forward to their ranks this summer.

They have been linked with a few of them. Most notably Federico Chiesa, who’s agents they are claimed to have met, as well as Malcom who has reportedly been attracting interest this week. But neither look especially close to happening.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp will head into the season with what he has.

Thankfully, what he has constitutes quite a lot, as it turns out. There will be debate over the first choice front three, but what’s clear is that Salah will be in it, no matter who else joins him. Without another addition though, Liverpool don’t have a natural senior replacement for the Egyptian.

With Mo set to head off for AFCON in January, that could be a problem.

However, it needn’t be a huge head-scratcher for Jurgen. When Doak came into the team last season he tended to play in Salah’s right-sided slot. Although a right-footer, the former Celtic youngster looked at home there. As Klopp wrestles with Europa League and domestic cup games, that’s where Doak will likely get his chance.

If he’s been listening to Mo and taking in what he says, there’s every chance he can take it. The opportunity is there to learn from one of the best Reds players of all time. That’s an education not many will get. Use it, Ben.
