Liverpool are still interested in signing Federico Chiesa, after having direct conversations with his agent.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Chiesa, as he attempts to find a way out of Juventus. They’re not alone in their interest though, with Newcastle United also regularly being mentioned.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea can also be added to that list. The Italian paper claim that Chiesa’s agent has been in talks with all three clubs over the last few days. And with the English trio’s interest said to be ‘deepening,’ further talks are expected in the coming days.

Despite that though, Liverpool and the other Premier League sides are reportedly ‘in no hurry’ to find a solution. Signing the Juve forward doesn’t appear to be an especially high priority for any of them.

While the Italian giants value Chiesa at around £51m, the buying clubs are claimed to see his value at more like £34m. With a solution not said to be in sight, Juventus are in danger of an unhappy Chiesa returning to the club.

As for his market within his own country, that’s deemed to be pretty much non-existent. The Italy international is reportedly asking for an increase on his current £80k-a-week salary, which is a ‘really difficult obstacle’ for any of Juve’s domestic rivals.

Liverpool still in Chiesa talks

Had this been two years back, Chiesa’s agent would have had one of the easiest jobs in the world.

At that time, having just won Euro 2020 with Italy, the forward could have probably signed for any club in the world.

But a couple of seasons and one devastating knee injury later, the 25-year-old’s status has diminished enormously.

Chiesa is no longer the explosive, dynamic winger he appeared during that tournament in 2021. Asked to play a much more defensive role by Max Allegri, he now looks a shadow of his former self.

Nevertheless, who’s to say that under the right manager, Chiesa can’t once again become the player he was.

The injuries have taken a toll, of that there is no doubt. But the former Fiorentina man is only 25. If he gets the right support and coaching, there’s surely still a player in there.

For the moment, it looks as though all of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle aren’t fully convinced of that. As talks continue into the weekend though, perhaps they can still be convinced.
