Dominik Szoboszlai has jokingly claimed that ‘the running’ was the highlight of his first day as a Liverpool player.
The Hungarian reported for duty yesterday as his Reds career began in earnest. Supporters were keen to get eyes on their new No.8, and LFCTV didn’t disappoint, sharing a bumper edition of the Inside Training series.
During the more than 20-minute video, Szoboszlai can be seen settling in with his new teammates. The 22-year-old is then put through the notorious ‘lactate test’ alongside Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Andy Robertson and fellow new boy Alexis Mac Allister.

Spotted by the camera man after the test, Szoboszlai is asked to give his thoughts on his first day.
“Really hard, but really good,” said the former RB Leipzig man. Pushed for a highlight, Szoboszlai gave a tongue-in-cheek response. “The running, the running,” he smiled.
“Easy?” asked the camera man. “No comment,” replied the cheery midfielder.
We like him already!
Szoboszlai put through his paces
Szoboszlai’s answers were obviously laden with irony, but he looked to cope well with the rigorous fitness tests.
No player looks forward to these first days of pre-season. There’s little ball-work and the focus is firmly on getting everyone in the best shape possible.
Having said that, a Jurgen Klopp team is made for running. If you can’t get through this in one piece, you’ll never be a neat fit. Thankfully, Szoboszlai looks good for it.

That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Having been in the Red Bull system since he was 16, the Hungary captain should be well-used to high-pressing, high-intensity football. In short, he’s not afraid of a little running.
This was no doubt in Liverpool’s mind when they triggered his £60m release clause. Although it’s very, very early days, this is a little glimpse into the fact that they were absolutely right to do so.
Of course, his ability to run relentlessly isn’t the main reason the Reds bought him, though. Szoboszlai is also clearly a superbly talented footballer. We can’t wait to see him with the ball at his feet in a Liverpool shirt.
With pre-season ramping up over the coming days, the Reds first friendly game is now just a week away. Yesterday was just an appetite whetter, the real stuff is on the way.
