Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas was over the moon to see Mohamed Salah at the AXA Training Centre today.
Both Tsimikas and Salah were part of the group beginning pre-season training this morning. Excitement abounds for Reds fans as they get their first proper glimpses of new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
But judging by a video posted on Liverpool’s official Twitter page today, there’s only one man Tsimikas wanted to see.
Sauntering into the gym for the first time in six weeks or so, the £12m Greek spotted Liverpool’s Egyptian King in conversation with one of Liverpool’s fitness coaches.
Kostas plays it cool as first, wandering slowly towards Salah. But as he gets closer, he can contain his excitement no more, leaping on Mo and engaging him in a good old fashioned bear hug.
Us too, Kostas. Great to have them back.
Reds enjoy first day back
There’s a little more excitement than usual surrounding Liverpool’s first day back this season. Of course, it’s always a pleasure to see the lads back and refreshed from their summer breaks, that goes without saying.
But this year, there’s the added bonus of seeing two players arrive who could potentially transform the team.
We’ve already seen footage of Mac Allister touching down at the AXA for the first time this morning. Videos of Szoboszlai saying his hello’s surely won’t be far behind.
In amongst all that though, we should also be excited by the prospect of another season of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
It wasn’t necessarily a given that Mo would stick around for a season in the Europa League. The Egypt icon is one of the best players in the world and should be playing at the highest level available.
Nevertheless, belief that Salah would be here to see this day on Kirkby never wavered. The 31-year-old appears just as committed as ever and determined to lead Liverpool to a better season.
With him in the squad, the Reds always have a chance. No wonder Kostas was so happy.
