Liverpool have been told that it would take an ‘astronomical’ signing-on fee to get Kylian Mbappe out of PSG this summer.
Mbappe could be on his way out of the Paris club, having informed them that he doesn’t intend to sign a new contract. As a result, the age-old links to Liverpool have returned.
But according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, a move to Anfield, or the Premier League in general, appears virtually impossible.

“There’ve been lots of stories. I’ve seen stories linking him with Liverpool in the past, there’s been some stories recently linking him with Arsenal as well,” Sohekol explains.
“I think the difficulty is yes, of course the Premier League is the richest, most watched league in the world. But the numbers involved in signing and satisfying a player like Kylian Mbappe are astronomical.
“He earns about £2m per week. How many clubs in the Premier League are there who could afford to pay him £2m per week? I think his signing-on fee, loyalty bonuses, you’re talking about £100m for that as well.”
Mbappe looking for eye-watering salary
This has always been the problem with stories linking Liverpool with a sensational move for Mbappe.
The player himself is said to be keen on joining the Reds and his mother is a fan of the club, no less. But the money involved just makes it feel impossible.
That was the case last year when it looked like the 24-year-old would be available on a free transfer. With the potential of a transfer fee this time around, it becomes even clearer that this just won’t happen.

If Mbappe is to leave Paris over the coming weeks, it’ll reportedly cost any club willing to take him around £170m. When you add that to the number Kaveh is talking about, it starts to get a little mind-boggling.
In the middle of squad rebuild, Liverpool couldn’t put anything like that figure towards signing Jude Bellingham. And he was a player they could have desperately done with.
Mbappe on the other hand would feel like a luxury. Smashing the wage structure and transfer record for a player we don’t even really need is about the furthest thing from what Liverpool look to do in the market.
So, we may see several more stories linking the France superstar with a move to Anfield in the near future. But unless he’s willing to make a pretty massive compromise, it isn’t happening.
