‘World-class’ player decides it’s Arsenal he wants to join most, not Liverpool

PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe would prefer to join Arsenal, not Liverpool, if he makes a move to the Premier League.

Mbappe could be on the market this summer, as PSG look to avoid losing him on a free next year. Inevitably, this has led to suggestions that Liverpool could be in for him. There were even reports yesterday that the Reds have made a sensational £170m bid.

Obviously, that hasn’t happened. And now, according to The Independent, it isn’t likely to either. They claim that ‘sources with knowledge of the situation’ have today insisted that there’s no offer from Liverpool. Such a move from the Reds is described as being ‘simply beyond their transfer plans.’

In fact, it still seems as though there’s only one club who are a realistic option for Mbappe – Real Madrid. Real, however, reportedly ‘don’t want to pay a penny’ for the Frenchman, and will hold out for a free transfer next summer.

With PSG hoping to avoid that scenario, Arsenal are surprisingly put forward as another candidate. Mbappe himself is claimed to be interested in a move to the Emirates. Intrigued by ‘the evolution of Mikel Arteta’s team’ and the chance to catapult them back to the top, the forward has reportedly installed Arsenal as his Premier League preference.

It seems as though Mbappe will be out of luck, though. Bringing him in is also said to be way out of the Gunners’ budget, and no contact from Arsenal has been forthcoming.

Mbappe interested in Arsenal move

In some ways, it must be slightly tricky to be Kylian Mbappe here. He may have a desire to join Arsenal, but they simply can’t afford him.

The same was true of Liverpool last summer. Mbappe reportedly ‘liked’ the Reds and was somewhat interested in a move to Anfield. But he was always going to be out of their reach.

Of course, he could simply lower his demands and ask for a more reasonable salary. But why would he, when PSG and Madrid are seemingly willing to offer him the Earth.

Even if he wanted to, the World Cup winner couldn’t do that this summer. With PSG adamant that they won’t lose their star man for nothing, he’s going to cost an enormous amount. An amount that only two or three clubs on the planet could afford. Arsenal and Liverpool are not in that very select group.

They’d both probably love to sign him, Virgil van Dijk called him ‘world-class’ in March [Sky Sports News] and Mbappe is the epitome of that. He’s simply too expensive, though.

Both clubs aren’t poor, we know that. The Gunners are even poised to smash through the £100m mark on a signing for the first time, as Declan Rice joins from West Ham. But you’d think it would be some time before they’re able to do so again.

As a result, Mbappe is trapped, to an extent, in his very own luxury prison. It’s PSG or Madrid, it always has been.
