Lucas Leiva tips 24-y/o Liverpool player to replace Milner and Firmino void

Lucas Leiva has tipped Trent Alexander-Arnold to become one of Liverpool’s leaders after the departures of James Milner and Roberto Firmino.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the former Brazilian midfielder named the England international as one of the players who could step up in the Reds squad with two huge club leaders in Milner and Firmino exiting Anfield this summer.

Despite being one of the youngest players in Liverpool’s squad, Alexander-Arnold will hit 300 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside giants next season having been a regular for Jurgen Klopp since 2017, with the defender mature way beyond his years.

And as a result, Lucas has tipped Alexander-Arnold to step up into a leadership role, with the defender more than capable of carrying the weight that has been left by Milner and Firmino ahead of what is likely to be a huge season for Liverpool.

The Anfield icon said: “He’s young still but he’s already a leader. He’s been playing five, six seasons as a starter. Millie and Bobby left, so he will now step up, for sure, and become one of the leaders of the team, not just because of his quality but also because of his presence as well and what he’s done for the club in the last few years.”

With Milner and Firmino no longer at Anfield, Liverpool have a leadership void that needs filling in, and Alexander-Arnold could be the man to take that role given his immense experience in Klopp’s squad and his status as a hometown hero.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold has all the makings of becoming a future captain with Liverpool, and with the defender set to evolve his role even further in the new campaign, the England international taking his importance to the squad to a new level now seems likely.
