Liverpool have approached Real Madrid over signing their ‘incredible’ £77m player this summer

Liverpool have made an enquiry over the availability of Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde this summer.

The Reds have long been linked with the Uruguayan, who may find himself down the pecking order in Madrid next season. And according to 90min, Liverpool did in fact approach the Spanish giants over Valverde earlier in the window.

However, it’s claimed that their questions were met quickly and emphatically: he’s not for sale.

Valverde is also said to have been approached directly, but reportedly has no desire to leave the Spanish capital. Having recently seen his wife give birth to a child, the 24-year-old is claimed to be settled.

Liverpool supposedly weren’t the only team to try their luck with Valverde. Chelsea, Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich are all said to have been in touch with Real Madrid. None were successful though, with Los Blancos ‘immediately dismissing’ any enquiries they received.

Valverde has a €1bn release clause in his contract, and Real have reportedly pointed to that as a firm indication that they want him to stay.

Valverde knocks back Liverpool interest

Despite firm reports that Valverde will not be sold this summer, claims of Liverpool’s interest keep on coming.

That’s no wonder, really. The Uruguay international has been called ‘incredible’ recently by Joe Cole and has even been compared to Steven Gerrard by none other than Luis Suarez.

He certainly has the skillset to be a success in Jurgen Klopp’s system. Even for the reported £77m fee [The Daily Mail], it would look like money very well spent.

Unfortunately though, there appears to be no chance of that happening.

With the arrival of Jude Bellingham as well as the newly-signed Arda Guler, there’s big competition at the Bernabeu next season. But Valverde looks ready to fight his way into the team.

If he isn’t able to do that, perhaps it’s worth Liverpool asking once again in January, or next summer.

Some time on the bench may yet change Valverde’s mind about staying in Madrid. If he does become available, the Reds won’t be the only ones trying to tie him down. For now though, it’s time to forget about this one.
