Luis Suarez believes Liverpool target Fede Valverde is a similar player to Steven Gerrard. Carlo Ancelotti agrees with the comparison.
Marca had a fantastic interview with Luis Suarez this week as he prepares for another chapter in his career. All sorts came up, as you’d imagine, including compatriot Fede Valverde.
It’s an interesting one for Liverpool as the Reds reportedly want him. AS claims there was an offer from Anfield right at the end of the transfer window of around £86m. Real Madrid rejected it, however.
And perhaps it shouldn’t be any surprise that Liverpool like Valverde. Not only is he a world-class talent but we could be looking at another Steven Gerrard.
That’s the comparison Suarez makes. He tells Marca that Valverde reminds him of the former Liverpool captain.
“I, honestly, and there are the newspaper archives, already in 2017, when Fede debuted in the National Team, I already said that he reminded me of Steven Gerrard, who was my teammate at Liverpool,” said Suarez.
“He has similar attributes. A box to box, with punch, change of pace, a lot of arrival… I don’t want to compare, but the characteristics are similar.”
Suarez likens Fede Valverde to Steven Gerrard
Carlo Ancelotti made the same comparison this week. He, too, sees a similarity there between the duo.
“He has many things from Gerrard,” he said, per ESPN. “It’s very good for him to be compared to a player who had this success.

“Federico has everything to reach his level, and even more.”
Well, if Ancelotti is right, we hope Valverde can his that level at Anfield as Gerrard did. Not that we’d expect him too – few players will ever reach the standards of the former captain.
Regardless of how similar he is to Gerrard, though, we’d love to see the Uruguayan with Liverpool. The Jude Bellingham race will be key, with Real Madrid involved in that one as the Reds are.
Perhaps, that provides the reason to get Valverde to Merseyside.
