Andy Robertson is still getting used to the idea of James Milner no longer being a Liverpool player.
Milner left the Reds this summer, ending a glittering eight-year stay at Anfield. Having joined Brighton, the veteran took to Instagram yesterday to share his first training session away from Liverpool in almost a decade.
“New Season, New Club, Same Work,” Milner wrote, alongside a picture of him – inevitably – in the gym.
Given the uniformity of their training kits, the Nike strip the 37-year-old is sporting could easily be Liverpool’s. But the Brighton badge on the shorts will be a strange sight for many Liverpool eyes.
It certainly looks that way for Robertson, who shared a typically tongue-in-cheek response.
“Too soon James!!” wrote the left-back, speaking for a whole fan base. It really does feel strange that Milner is no longer a Red. This will take some getting used to.
Milner begins life at Brighton
As well as Milner kicking his Brighton career off, there was more strangeness for Liverpool fans yesterday. Roberto Firmino was finally announced as a new player for Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
Granted, the kit is as unfamiliar as the team who wear it, but it still feels weird that Bobby is officially no longer ours.
Of course, in a sense, both he and Milner will always be Liverpool’s. Both played over 300 times for the club and will forever be associated with the successes they contributed to on Merseyside.

For now though, their remit is to go and carry that success on elsewhere.
Obviously, any success that Milner has will be much closer to home. As a result of Brighton’s upwardly travelling team, we hope that it isn’t too brilliant a stay on the South Coast for our former No.7.
But no, in all seriousness, Milner will surely be a hit at Brighton. Just a couple of days in, his infamous commitment to pre-season is probably already the talk of the Amex.
Ever the professional, there’s no doubt that the Yorkshireman will now be fully focused on his new team. Robbo, like the rest of us, will just have to get used to it.
