Brighton & Hove Albion technical director David Weir has lauded the signing of James Milner as the former Liverpool midfielder this week confirmed his move to the Seagulls.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Brighton chief was full of praise for the 37-year-old veteran as Milner’s transfer to the Amex Stadium side was finally announced, with Liverpool confirming earlier in the year that the versatile midfielder will be leaving Anfield.
Milner signs for Brighton on a one-year deal as Roberto De Zerbi’s side look to replace Alexis Mac Allister, who signed for Liverpool in one of the biggest deals of the summer transfer window so far. And the Seagulls seem excited with their new addition.

Indeed, Brighton qualified for the UEFA Europa League last season, and Milner’s experience will be key in the south coast side excelling in the competition. Weir said on the signing: “We are delighted that James has agreed to join us after a hugely successful period at Liverpool.
“His experience speaks for itself with the amount of games he has played and the trophies he has won throughout a decorated career. These games include European competition, which will be of huge value to us as we embark on our first season in Europe. We’re looking forward to working with James when the players return for pre-season.”
Brighton have signed Milner at the perfect time

The timing of this transfer has come at a perfect time for both player and club, with Milner ready to move on from Liverpool and Brighton in need of a Premier League veteran who can help the Seagulls evolve to the next stage of their top-flight status.
With Europe on the cards next season, Milner will be a focal point for Brighton in the Europa League, and with club officials already excited by what the midfielder will do both on and off the pitch, there’s no telling how far the Seagulls can go with the former Liverpool man on their books.
