£26m player’s move to AC Milan may be in danger, Liverpool could still make a bid

Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Samuel Chukwueze, as AC Milan fail to get a deal across the line.

Chukwueze looks set to be one of Milan’s top transfer targets this summer. And according to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, talks are underway with the Villarreal man.

However, Galetti claims that the Italians still aren’t convinced that Chukwueze is value for money. With a price-tag between £21-26m, Milan reportedly feel the 24-year-old is a little expensive.

As a result, a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, are circling. Arsenal and Newcastle United are mentioned as the other clubs taking an active interest in Chukwueze. With so many teams potentially involved, the competition said to be ‘fierce.’

The Nigerian has just a year left on his contract at Villarreal and looks set for a move this summer.

Milan stall on Chukwueze price

As Liverpool look to box off the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, their midfield rebuild is almost complete.

We think the Reds may still target one more player for the middle of the park. But there’s also the chance that in Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, Jurgen Klopp has got what he wanted.

As a result, we may now start to see a few more links appearing for players in different positions.

In that respect, a left-footed forward would be one of the areas most in need of bringing someone in.

With Mohamed Salah still lacking a natural back-up in the squad, Liverpool may feel the need to address that. Chukwueze would look almost perfect in that respect.

As he has just a year left on his contract in Spain, he won’t cost a huge fee. Milan are probably right in being hesitant at meeting Villarreal’s asking price, perhaps somewhere in the £15-20m range would be more appropriate.

If his price does come down to that kind of figure, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Liverpool in the mix.
