£18m player moves up Liverpool’s list of transfer targets, they love him now

Dominik Szoboszlai has moved up Liverpool’s list of transfer targets, after a meeting between the Reds and his agents.

Big news dropped yesterday, as Liverpool were revealed to be exploring a move for RB Leipzig’s £18m midfielder. And now, according to Sky Sports, Szoboszlai is quickly becoming one of Jurgen Klopp’s primary targets.

They claim that the Reds love the Hungarian’s versatility, ‘impressive’ chance creation metrics, and ball-carrying ability. In fact, Szoboszlai is said to be the exact profile Liverpool are targeting in midfield.

With that in mind, it’s reported that a meeting has already taken place with the Leipzig man’s representatives.

However, Szoboszlai isn’t the only player rating high in Liverpool’s collective mind. The Reds are claimed to be ‘exploring multiple options’ to add ‘technical quality, dynamism, and depth’ to their midfield.

Another name on the list is reportedly Nicolo Barella, who is singled out as a firm target. Euro U21 duo Khephren Thuram and Ryan Gravenberch are two more of interest, with ‘background work’ claimed to have been done on both.

This is why we love the transfer window, isn’t it? Even in these days of around the clock reporting and insider knowledge spilling out all over the internet, Liverpool still find ways to surprise.

It wasn’t as though Szoboszlai was completely off the radar prior to yesterday. His recent publicly stated desire to work with Jurgen Klopp had pricked up ears and his name has been floated about before.

But in this transfer window, he wasn’t in the pool of names consistently being mentioned with the Reds.

Then, out of nowhere, he feels like one of the most likely to sign between now and Septemeber.

Clearly, there are a few reasons for this. As mentioned by Sky, his ability is first and foremost why Liverpool want him. He’s a excellent all-round midfielder with an eye for goal – something the Reds have been lacking.

Unfortunately though, that isn’t the only metric Liverpool sign players based on. They always have to look at availability and affordability too. Can they get the player, and how much will he cost.

In Szoboszlai’s case, they know they can get him and what the price will be. The presence of a £60m release clause sees to that. Now, all Liverpool need to do is decide whether he’s worth the money. Oh, and they have to do so before tomorrow!
