£18m player is interested in a move to Liverpool, he’s already spoken to them about joining

RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is interested in joining Liverpool, after they initiated contact with his agents.

The Hungarian today emerged as a genuine target for the Reds, as they explore the possibility of bringing him to Anfield. And according to 90min, the interest between player and club is mutual.

They claim that Liverpool have ‘touched base’ with Szoboszlai’s camp over a potential move. The feedback appears to have been positive, with the 22-year-old registering his interest.

Liverpool aren’t the only club with designs on taking Szoboszali from Leipzig, though. As is widely reported, Newcastle United are also said to be in the mix, with 90min confirming as much. The outlet reports that other ‘top clubs’ from around Europe are ‘monitoring the situation,’ too.

None of this is seemingly likely to disrupt Leipzig, though. The Germans are reportedly ‘in no rush’ to sell their midfielder, and will hold out for someone to pay his £60m release clause.

Liverpool get green light from Szoboszlai

This is good news. With Liverpool out of the Champions League next season, attracting top players was always going to be a worry this summer.

Up against the likes of Newcastle, the Reds would ordinarily be confident. But given the state of things, it isn’t a given that the likes of Szoboszlai would opt for Anfield over St James’ Park.

As things stand, there’s no guarantee that the Hungary international will make that decision either.

But with his very public statement of his desire to work with Jurgen Klopp still ringing in the ears, there feels to be a good chance that he would.

Before then though, Liverpool have to deal with Leipzig. The £60m fee would look a little high for a player signed for just £18m two-and-a-half years ago. You can understand the Reds being slightly hesitant to pay that.

However, if they don’t shell out, it seems as though somebody else will.

If their interest in Szoboszlai is real, and he in turn wants to join, then that wouldn’t seem like such a high price to pay. Things could move quickly on this one, let’s see how things play out.
