Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is reportedly very open to leaving Anfield this summer, with Leeds United already interested in signing the centre-back.

According to the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old is keen to move on from Merseyside after spending last season on the bench, with Phillips now at a stage in his career where he should be playing regular football, and Leeds could provide an opportunity for the defender.

The newly-relegated Championship side are eager to bounce straight back up into the Premier League next season, a plan that can only be executed if Leeds get their recruitment right this summer, with Phillips a player the club are interested in regardless of which manager is appointed.

Despite hardly featuring for Liverpool last season, Phillips is a firm cult hero on Anfield after his defensive exploits in the 2020/21 season. Yet even for the most passionate of supporters, a departure for the centre-back feels right this summer, with Leeds an ideal club.

Indeed, Phillips simply has to play regular football if he is to make something out of his career. And with the defender now open to leaving Liverpool, the Reds could soon get a decent transfer in the books if Leeds move quickly enough for the centre-back.

Phillips has always shown his quality when given the chance for Liverpool. And as a result, Leeds signing the Bolton-born defender could prove to be one of the deals of the summer, particularly in the Championship, where quality centre-backs can win teams titles and promotion.

Moreover, at a reported £10m, Phillips will provide long-term cover for Leeds in a position where longevity is key, with the defender more than good enough and fir enough to last an entire 46-game season should a move to Elland Road materialise.
