Aston Villa have reportedly taken concrete steps to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, with Liverpool also interested in the Italian international.

According to Tuttosport, Unai Emery’s side have taken a surprise leap in their quest to sign the Serie A superstar, with Villa now eager to beat the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United to Chiesa, who are both chasing the 25-year-old superstar.

Reportedly valued at £60m, Liverpool had been viewed as the favourites to sign Chiesa this summer given their long-standing interest in the Juventus attacker. However, this latest update surrounding Villa could throw a massive wrench in the Reds plans to recruit the forward.

Lauded by supporters as a ‘relentless diamond’, Chiesa is one of the best wingers in Europe when fit and firing, and Villa winning the race for the former ACF Fiorentina star would be quite the surprise to many, namely Liverpool, who could be perfect for the Italian.

Indeed, although Liverpool are the ideal side for Chiesa, Villa’s effectiveness in the transfer window cannot be understated. And as a result, the Birmingham-based side could prove to be a real issue for the Merseyside giants in their chase for the winger.

Liverpool might have made midfield and defence a priority this summer, but that doesn’t mean they can’t add to their forward line. And as a result, Chiesa could be a dream signing for Jurgen Klopp, and they now have to beat Villa to the punch.

Emery’s side have the pull and the negotiating power to land Chiesa, and whilst Liverpool could be favourites still, it will mean nothing if they don’t even start with an honest attempt to sign the winger, who could be a sensational option for the Anfield giants.
