The agent of Lecce prospect Patrick Dorgu has urged him to reject a potential move to Liverpool this summer.
Dorgu has come to light as a possible recruit for the Reds, having impressed in Lecce’s U19 team last season. But speaking to bold.dk about his client’s future, agent Kingsley Ogbdodo has claimed that he’ll be advising the 18-year-old to stay away from Anfield, for now.
“Liverpool want him. Liverpool have been watching him and interested in him for some time, but if he goes there, he will play in the U23s,” Ogbodo said. “It’s not the best thing for him, so I advise him not to. They can offer him a lot of money, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. We focus on his career, development and playing time.”
The agent also name-dropped another couple of behemoths who are after the young Danish left-back.
“Liverpool are obviously not the only club that want him,” he explained. “There are many clubs here in England that are watching him. Manchester City watched him when he played against England for the U19 national team in Hobro, Denmark. Lecce’s scout has also told me that Barcelona are also keeping an eye on Patrick because he is a huge talent.
“We want him to stay at Lecce for a little longer. Two more seasons so he can mature and gain experience. So when he moves on to a bigger club in a couple of seasons, we know at that point that he’s ready for it.”
Dorgu told to stay put
In many ways, this is actually a refreshing position for an agent of a young player to take. Far too often we see promising star’s make too big a step too early on in their career.
Of course, the lure of such big clubs is very attractive to a teenager who is yet to even make a first team appearance for his club. But more often than not, greedy agents can advise them badly in search of more and more money.
So, to hear Dorgu being advised to the contrary is good, even if it is to Liverpool’s detriment this time.

It remains to be seen whether the Dane takes his agent’s advise on board. We obviously wouldn’t complain if he did end up at Anfield this summer. He’s been labelled an ‘exciting talent’ by Nigerian outlet the New Telegraph. That’s a player worth watching.
For the moment though, it would seem wise to stay put in Italy. Lecce just about stayed in Serie A during 2022/23, so if he can keep kicking on, Dorgu should get some top level European football next season
If he can maintain his level of development playing senior football, then the likes of Liverpool and City will come back again.
Not to put too much pressure on the young man, but perhaps the Reds are making the first baby steps into finding Andy Robertson’s eventual successor.
