Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella won’t push for a move to Liverpool, after being told of Jurgen Klopp’s interest in him.

The Reds have been continuously linked with Barella as they look to beef up their midfield this summer. With Alexis Mac Allister the only player brought in so far, rumours that they want the Italy international have gone into overdrive.

But according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport via The Mirror, Barella himself is taking no notice. They claim that the 26-year-old has now been told that Liverpool – and more specifically Klopp himself – want to bring him to Anfield.

However, Barella is reportedly unmoved. He’s said to have no plans to push for an exit from San Siro, no matter who wants him.

With three years still to run on his contract, it looks like this midfielder is going nowhere.

Barella happy to stay at Inter

Barella’s interest in a move away from Inter is turning out to be the key component in this saga. If it were up to Inter and their owners, it appears that the Italian would be on the market at the right price.

That would still be a high price. Somewhere in the region of £77m has been mooted to be the number in their heads. But, ordinarily, you meet the asking price and you can usually get the player.

In this instance, thing’s don’t look like they’ll be quite so easy.

Barella is well known to be a boyhood Inter fan. Having joined the club of his dreams four years ago, it seems he has no desire to leave just yet.

If that really is the case, then Liverpool should absolutely move on. We know Klopp is a big fan of Barella’s, but it may be that he and the recruitment team are simply wasting their time chasing him.

In a crucial transfer window, that’s time that the Reds can’t afford to let slip away. Other targets are much cheaper and more willing to come to Anfield and they should now be prioritised.

Of course, if Liverpool think they can change Barella’s mind, then maybe it’s still worth hammering away. But it sounds like it isn’t going to be easy.
