Liverpool and RB Leipzig are ‘closing in’ on a deal to loan Fabio Carvalho for the 2023/24 season.

Carvalho had a disappointing debut campaign at Anfield, seeing his game time fizzle out as the season went on. As a result, there’s been plenty of rumblings that a move could be on the cards.

Throughout those rumblings, Liverpool were said to be ‘adamant’ that Carvalho would only be allowed to leave on-loan. And now, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, that’s set to be the way things pan out.

“RB Leipzig and Liverpool are closing in on Fabio Carvalho deal on loan until the end of the current season — clubs now working on final details to get it done next week,” Romano wrote.

“Understand deal does NOT include buy option clause at this stage, club source confirms.”

His work-rate, attitude and desire have never been in question, with Jurgen Klopp praising him regularly. With Liverpool struggling to get any kind of rhythm though, Carvalho looked like a square peg in a round hole.

There is still a player there though, clearly. Leipzig are one of the best around at integrating and developing young players, so this move should be an exciting prospect for all involved.

Hopefully Fabio can use that to recapture his best form and come back to Liverpool fresh to make an impact in a year’s time. This isn’t done just yet, but it looks virtually certain that it will be
