Andy Robertson has hailed Liverpool’s signing of Alexis Mac Allister, but says he wishes it had happened sooner.
The Reds tied up an early window deal for Mac Allister two weeks ago. With everything sorted nice and quickly, the Argentine will be fresh and ready to join up with his new teammates for a full pre-season.
But speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, Robertson joked that he wished Mac Allister had joined years ago, so he could convince him to follow his roots and play for Scotland.

“I wish [Mac Allister] came to us a wee bit earlier to help convince him to play for Scotland earlier!” laughed the Liverpool left-back. “He’s a fantastic player and I’ve played against him over the past two or three years.
“He’s done some special stuff for Brighton and Argentina, being a World Cup winner and that. And he’s still relatively young. A really good signing for us, we’ve managed to get it done early for him for preseason so he’ll be able to settle in and he’ll be a success at this club.
“He’s all got all the attributes and we will help him as best as we can. I’m looking forward to seeing him, we look forward to welcoming him in the changing room and I can’t wait to see him in a Liverpool shirt.”
Mac Allister ready for Liverpool move
With Virgil van Dijk already singing Mac Allister’s praises, Robertson is the second Liverpool player to speak publicly about his new teammate.
It’s safe to say that the Reds squad is excited to welcome its newest member to the team.
And why shouldn’t they be? He’s a super little player. As Robbo points out, the only issue with the transfer is that it wasn’t done years ago.

We’re not sure Alexis would have – or even could have – been minded to play for Scotland had that happened. But he certainly could have prevented Liverpool’s current midfield crisis.
It’s true that the 24-year-old probably wasn’t at the level needed for a Reds player until recently. All the same though, imagine Jurgen Klopp got his hands on a 21 or 22-year-old Mac Allister. He could have moulded him into the exact player he needed.
The expectation is that Jurgen will still be able to do that. At 24, Mac Allister is hardly an old hand and he looks capable of taking instructions on board to play in different positions.
So, it might be after time, but we can’t wait to see Alexis get started. Scotland could probably do with him more, but – with apologies to Robbo – he’ll have to settle for playing with the World Cup winner in Red instead.
