Rumours are flying around that Liverpool might actually be about to try and sign £15m Man City star

Liverpool could be about to make a shock attempt to sign Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker.

Fresh off the back of a treble win with City, Walker has surprisingly been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer. Confirming that possibility, The Daily Mail report that German giants Bayern Munich are ‘discussing’ signing the 33-year-old.

Talks between City and Bayern are seemingly underway, with a £15m fee said to have been mooted for Walker.

The right-back swapping Manchester for Munich is claimed to be far from a certainty, though. In fact, Walker would reportedly still prefer to extend his contract at City, and is reportedly in discussions to do so.

Interestingly, the England international may also have another option. The Mail report that ‘rumours of interest from Liverpool’ have reached their desk. The Reds could be about to throw their hat in the ring for Walker.

That could be a potentially exciting prospect. However, it’s reported that it’s ‘difficult’ to see City doing business with Liverpool for any player, Walker included.

Klopp ponders right-back decision

One of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest decisions of the early season will be to choose who is playing at right-back for him.

In seasons gone by that hasn’t even been a question. Trent Alexander-Arnold has had the position sown up for the past five years or so. But given what we saw at the back end of the season – and more recently with England – Klopp has some legitimate questions to answer over Trent.

Should he continue with him in a hybrid midfield role? Maybe move him exclusively back to full-back? Or should Jurgen take a leaf out of Gareth Southgate’s book and move Trent into a full-time midfield position?

The answer to these questions will determine whether or not Liverpool pursue a right-back in the summer window.

Alexander-Arnold’s performances for England this weekend have shown that he’s more than capable of playing permanently in the middle of the pitch. The quality of opposition may have been lacking, but the 24-year-old clearly has the tools to do it full-time.

Plenty of Liverpool fans would be in favour of Klopp playing Trent without his right-back duties. With the Reds needing new options in midfield, the timing would appear to be perfect.

Hypothetically, if that happens, then why not have a cheeky bid for Walker. He may be getting on a bit now, but the former Sheffield United man is still one of the best right-backs in world football. As mentioned, it might be a difficult one to pull off, but the end result might be worth that effort.
