Jamie Carragher suggests 290k-a-week PL star is the perfect teammate for Alexander-Arnold

Jamie Carragher has hailed the partnership being formed between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Bukayo Saka for England.

Trent was impressive in midfield for the Three Lions again last night. The Liverpool right-back played the full 90 minutes of their 7-0 win over North Macedonia, grabbing a lovely assist for Saka along the way.

The Arsenal man stole the show as he bagged himself an excellent hat-trick. His control and lashed finish from Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint first-time ball over the top was the highlight of the game.

And taking to Twitter after full-time, Carragher hailed the link-up between the Liverpool and Arsenal superstars.

“Trent to Saka is becoming quite a combination,” wrote the Reds legend, with a couple of flame emojis to illustrate the point. It certainly is.

Trent building Saka connection

In another life, Alexander-Arnold and Saka could perhaps have been lining up at club level. Before penning a new, £290k-a-week contract at the Emirates [The Telegraph], Saka had been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool.

In the end, the 21-year-old committed to his boyhood club. Having grown into one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players, he looks set to stay there well into the future. The Reds have probably now missed their chance.

Should he ever be looking to move on though, then Liverpool would be a good bet to take him.

His on-pitch understanding with Trent is something fantastic and seemingly innate. That kind of connection doesn’t come around every day.

If there’s ever the chance to foster that day-in-day-out, then both players and Liverpool themselves would surely jump at making it happen.

Of course, Alexander-Arnold already has a supreme player to work with down the Reds’ right-hand-side: a certain Mohamed Salah.

In Mo, we’d argue that Trent already has the perfect teammate to play off. Capable of everything Saka is and more, the Egyptian has built an almost telepathic connection with his younger colleague over the past six years. Still, Bukayo would be one heck of an understudy.
