Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says he wishes Jude Bellingham had moved to Anfield this summer.

Bellingham was finally unveiled as a Real Madrid player yesterday, ending years of speculation. It was a blow for Liverpool, who had installed the 19-year-old as their top target from as far back as last Autumn.

And speaking to TalkSPORT today, Enrique said Bellingham would have been the perfect addition for the Reds.

“I love him, I love him,” grimaced the Spaniard, when asked about Bellingham’s move. “I think he was the best number 8 anyone could buy in the world, he would fit in every single starting eleven in any club in the world. I would have loved him to wear a red shirt, you know. He would have been that kind of signing like Van Dijk was, like Alisson was, that kind of signing.

“Real Madrid have just got a magnificent player. I think he’s going to be a big, big legend for them.”

Time to move on from Bellingham

It’s time for Liverpool to move on from Bellingham. We wanted him, he would have been brilliant, but he’s now a Real Madrid player.

Still only 19, there obviously might be a chance for a transfer in the future. You’d imagine that Bellingham will be keen to test himself in the Premier League at some stage and he’s clearly very well acquainted with Liverpool by now.

But for the time being, there’s no need to pine over this one too much.

The final decision was probably largely to do with the transfer fee, so there’s only so much you can do about that. Liverpool don’t spend such fees, we know that already.

Mainly though, it seems Madrid was simply Bellingham’s first choice. Once the move to Spain become a concrete possibility, he just couldn’t turn it down.

So, frankly, we don’t want a player like that at the club. Maybe it sounds churlish, but Liverpool shouldn’t be a second-choice for anyone.

Alexis Mac Allister was all-in on the Reds despite interest from elsewhere. As a result, he may not have the glamour of Bellingham, but he’ll certainly do for us. Time to let it go, Jose, we’ll be fine.
